Johannesburg - Mobile phones belonging to State Security Minister Ayanda Dlodlo, her deputy and several officials from the State Security Agency were found this week to have been cloned, Dlodlo's spokesman said on Wednesday.
The spokesman said the incident was being investigated by police. He said it was not who known who was behind the attack or if any sensitive information had been compromised. "We don't have further information, all we know is that the phones were cloned," the spokesman told Reuters, adding that the cloning was discovered when individuals received texts from deputy minister Zizi Kodwa's phone that he had not sent.
The incident is the latest to raise embarrassing questions for the agency over its ability to properly protect the sensitive materials it handles in the course of its work. It follows a robbery at SSA headquarters in Pretoria earlier in February in which money and documents were stolen.
I'm not a member of the ANC, never have been nor will I ever be, but Dlodlo, Kodwa and others whose phones have been cloned need to be placed under 24hr level-7 protection. Their families included. This is not to be taken lightly. Coz it's not an attack on ANC but the nation
Please dont disclose such information to the public. This is extremely embarrassing and the Minister thinks its news worthy information. Maybe we should close the ministry and the department as part of cost cutting. If they cant protect their offices and themselves why bother.

This is disturbing... 😳 the govt should have an encryption standard for phones of officials. Service providers should flag on their systems, numbers for PEPs (politically exposed persons) so any requests on their profiles should be monitored by ITsecurity & Compliance teams.
How will they able to protect us. Last week their was a burglary at their offices now their phones has been cloned.

People should focus on wider possibilities other than internal politics. This is a security issue. Outside forces might be taking advantage of the political situation to advance their own agenda. Remember there is Land Expropriation and calls for outside forces to intervene.
I think we need someone very tough, smart, fearless and decisive to lead that department politically. I get a sense that Dlodlo is struggling to run that department. I also suspect that stooges of the former Gupta ministers are destabilizing the department. Embarrassing!
