The Cape Chamber of Commerce and opposition parties have slammed the City for continuing with salary hikes for its top officials amid the financial crunch brought on by the Covid-19 lockdown. TheCapeArgus

Cape Town - The Cape Chamber of Commerce and opposition parties have slammed the City for continuing with salary hikes for its top officials amid the financial crunch brought on by the Covid-19 lockdown.“This new City budget reflects all the characteristics of the previous draft circulated for comment on March 26 - it’s still aimed primarily at voters in the upcoming municipal elections,” Chamber president Geoff Jacobs said.

The City “has cut expenditure in many areas that are not urgent but it has left salaries and wages untouched, except for a token reduction in the annual bonuses which are dwarfed by the 6.5% annual increase everyone on the City payroll gets. This at a time when large swathes of the Cape’s private sector workforce are on half pay, on unpaid leave, or have been retrenched”, he said.

ACDP councillor Demetrius Dudley said: “Each financial year, the Minister of Co-operative Government, after consultation with MECs for local government in each province, determines the upper limits of the salaries, allowances and benefits of the members of the municipal councils. The determination which makes provision for an increase must be agreed to by a full council, with a supporting majority vote.

‘Up to 80% of people in Eastern Cape likely to get Covid-19’About 80% of people in the Eastern Cape are likely to contract Covid-19. You have to wonder where he gets this figure of 80% from? EC has a population of around 7 million, so if 80% get infected, and 1% die (his figures), then he is anticipating 56000 deaths in EC alone, whereas other models talk about 36 to 40k nationwide... No country in the world Whatever the bullshit arround this plandemic is clearer by the day. 80% get it, 99.9% of the 80% will get sniffles or not any symtoms at all & the 00.1% that get seriously ill will have underlying conditions that make getting the 'FLU' fatal like happens every year.
