If the ‘unity candidate’ to lead the ANC is someone who has been tainted by corruption, who never spoke out during the dark years of State Capture and has never spoken out against the assassinations of grassroots activists, then the party has run out of...

ANC officials aspiring to top positions all declare that they are “willing to serve” if this is “the decision of the branches”. No one admits to their ambition, no matter their rank.

The ANC is spinning the line that Mkhize is a “unity” candidate who can unite the neoliberal and kleptocratic factions of the ANC. . And the middle classes are now as enraged as the poor at the collapse of the electricity system, and the water system too in some parts of the country. It is true, of course, that Mkhize has not been found guilty in a court of law and that trial by media can be a kangaroo court, as the media’s own scandals, such as the Sars “brothel” scandal, have shown. However, in this case there is a clear prima facie case in the public domain of Mkhize’s complicity in the Digital Vibes corruption scandal.

I would like someone like Trevor Manuel or Neeshan Balton to raise his hand to lead SA. He is a no-nonsense guy, freebies from officials and Ministers will stop. No milking the system for officials who travel overseas at times when they don't need to. The trimmings will be out.

Neither ANC nor opposition are proving themselves worthyIf last year’s local government elections taught us one thing more important than the ANC losing control of the metros and some big municipalities, it was that a growing number of citizens are becoming disaffected with politics, writes S'thembiso Msomi. Herman Mashaba clashes with his party over ANC talksActionSA leader Herman Mashaba is at loggerheads with his party’s highest decision making body, the senate, over the direction the party should take in Gauteng coalition talks. What a disappointment he has become. Success in business, failure in politics. They should never support ANC A political party is not the same as being a father in a family. The mentality which Mashaba is demonstrating will break the party. It must be a collective decision and not his own views. He must leave the party and concentrate on his family business.
