OPINION: Kaizer Chiefs need new owners more than a new manager

“In 2010, Chiefs founder and chairman Kaizer Motaung Snr. bought back the 40% stake he sold to Primedia back in 1999 and since then, Amakhosi sold 35% of their shares to Dr. Mike Nkuna, who was rumoured to be keen on acquiring more shares to become the majority shareholder. However, the medical doctor rebuffed those claims.”

Would a change in their ownership structure translate into a change in their fortunes on the pitch? There is the school of thought that aruns through the organisation with Kaizer Motaung’s children all holding powerful positions at the club. Could a reshuffle in that area bring in fresh ideas? Just a thought. Mr Motaung isn’t letting go any time soon, but he’s got to realise that big changes are needed because things aren’t working right now.

Image: XAfter almost two decades at the club, Itumeleng Khune’s Kaizer Chiefs story finally ends in 2024. Itumeleng Issac Khune was the rare honour of being a one-club man. Famous around the world for his of a football, he’s also displayed superb shot-stopping abilities for club and country down the years. Khune made his PSL debut for Amakhosi against Jomo Cosmos in August 2007. In the 16 years that have elapsed, he has scoopedwith the Glamour Boys, including three DStv Premiership crowns in 2005, 2013 and 2015. This guy was also PSL Footballer of the Year in 2013.

. The likes of Spiwe Given Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe are options to take the armband from Khune. Meanwhile, senior stars like Keagan Dolly and Edmilson Dove also face uncertain futures.How do you think the club’s board should be constructed?
