Op-Ed: Better the devil you know: Why I will vote for the ANC By Mavuso Msimang

I will vote for the African National Congress for the National Assembly and for my province, Gauteng. I will be casting my vote first and foremost as a concerned South African citizen. I respect my party, the ANC, and believe its leadership under President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa will continue with greater vigour the removal of all the individuals who through greed, abused the trust of the people who voted them into office by becoming corrupt.

At this point in the life of our young republic, it is crucial that South Africa has a stable government with the kind of experience that is only available in the ANC, despite its acknowledged flaws. The large number of unemployed urgently need to be found jobs. It is investors, big and small, national and international, who make it possible for the economy to grow and create jobs.

The Economic Freedom Fighters declare in their election manifesto that if they got to government they would grow the economy through nationalisation: of mines, land, banks, etc. For all its good intentions, this would be a disastrous strategy. Witness the record anywhere else in the world. There would simply be no money to finance their ambitious desire of doubling social grants and achieving free education.

For his part, Floyd Shivambu, the EFF deputy leader, is also yet to explain his links with Stellenbosch businessmen, part of the group that he scornfully refers to as the “Stellenbosch mafia” whom he repeatedly visited with EFF MP Marshall Dlamini, he who assaulted a police officer outside parliament in March last year. There would be much more to say but time does not permit an elaboration.

‘For all these T-shirts we have given out they better vote ANC’Newsletter| By midday in Soweto, David Mabuza had dished out more than 1500 T-shirts and 1100 doeks, raising fears the ANC would not meet the demand: “For all these T-shirts we have given out they better vote ANC come next week,” a local ANC member said t-shirt politricks.. Their votes come cheap. If your voters are this gullible it is any which way but lose. South Africans should take the t-shirts but vote for a different party. A t-shirt won’t reduce high unemployment rate, poor service delivery and high cost of living. Your vote isn’t worth a t-shirt

Op-ed: Reproductive Justice: The missing issue in party manifestos for 2019 ElectionWomen outnumber men in South Africa, yet most political parties only pay lip service to issues of reproductive health and justice in their election manifestos. Control over their own bodies and health is the first step towards gender equality and development for South African women and girls.

Op-Ed: The Incredible Whiteness of Being (the DA)In three days’ time, thousands of voters are likely to ‘hold-their-noses-and-vote-Ramaphosa’ knowing full well that one votes for a party and not an individual, fully cognisant that their vote will contribute to large numbers of murderous, corrupt and inept ANC politicians making it into Parliament as a result. Yet they will do it anyway. Not because they do not know that the DA exists, or what its policies are, or even its track record in the municipalities it governs. It is simply that they do not trust the DA. Thanks for the endorsement. and then they show a picture of mostly black people. These opinionistas think we are stupid Considering how systematically this country has been dismantled by the governing party, thought a journalist had better stories to uncover? Our priorities are seriously misplaced, hence we are bankrupt financially and in ideology and direction. Our_DA MYANC

OP-ED: Case against Voter Apathy: Voting is the ultimate expression of powerWith the upcoming elections, there has been a lot of speculation about the impact the vote of the born-frees and young adults is likely to have, with some saying that these generations are apathetic and uninterested in the current political discourse.

OP-ED: The false choice between reburials and justice for the Gukurahundi victimsThe promise by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa that victims of the Gukurahundi massacres in Matabeleland will be reburied is the first official acknowledgement that the killings took place. But families of victims should not be in a hurry – the killings were a crime against humanity, Mnangagwa was involved in the planning of the Gukurahundi, and evidence must be preserved.

OP-ED: Arbitration Court subtly rebukes the IAAF and spells out how Caster should fight onThe fight with the IAAF over its ruling on Caster Semenya is not over, but it needs a different angle of attack. So let’s get over the emotion and back to work. Passion alone does not win a fight.

Op-Ed: The time may have come for a trans-partisan government of national unityPresident Nelson Mandela had the right idea in 1994 when he put together a Government of National Unity to pull South Africa back from the brink after decades of conflict. Perhaps this is an idea whose time has come, again, in 2019? Not with DA. EEF is more effective than DA.

OP-ED: The future is Asian, and Africa’s hinterland is thereAs the economies of Asia continue to rise and rise, Africa, with its vast store of raw materials and commodities, is uniquely positioned to piggy-back as a partner. But it would be foolish to only look at China – the rest of Asia is also part of this global economic tectonic shift.

Op-Ed: For South Africa to succeed, we need to support Cyril RamaphosaReading the voluminous commentary that has preceded the 8 May 2019 election, one would be forgiven for thinking that we live in a failed state. We do not, and we never will — as long as we fight hard enough. The future of any nation is in God’s hands Whatever we are going to do it’s a movie that the outcomes are already known No one is voting for CyrilRamaphosa that is not how the system currently works. Voting for MyANC will keep criminals in power who should be in jail but they will be protected to continue stealing the next 5 years & sinking SA. Brace for the crash, we are in the end game now. You're not even hiding your support for ThumaMina in the last 48 hours....
