Earlier this year, Toronto FC boss John Herdman stated that it would be hard for the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker to break into the team's starting XI ahead of attackers such as Federico Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne, both of whom are Italy internationals.
However, it seemed the 23-year-old had finally caught his break in the first team when, in his first start for the Reds, he scored his first goal during a 5-0 win over Simcoe County Rovers last week. While things appeared to be heading in an upward trajectory for the young striker, his rise in the first team has been halted, with the club announcing that the Bafana Bafana international has been sent on loan to the team's reserve side in the MLS Next Generation.
An official statement from Toronto reads:"Toronto FC announced today that the club has loaned forward Cassius Mailula to Toronto FC II ahead of this afternoon’s match against Orlando City B at Osceola Heritage Park.Get the best in Soccer, News and Lifestyle content with SNL24 PLUS For 14 free days, you can have access to the best from Soccer Laduma, KickOff, Daily Sun, TrueLove and Drum.
