Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has named a 29-man preliminary squad for the 2024 Copa America , which is missing four players who won the 2022 FIFA World Cup. On Monday, the 46-year-old announced his preliminary squad for the upcoming tournament set to be held in the United States , with at least three players still to be cut for the final selection.
Four players who were involved in the Albiceleste's World Cup-winning side in Qatar two years will play no part, including Roma playmaker Paulo Dybala. The 30-year-old has enjoyed a fine season in Italy, contributing to 26 goals in 38 appearances, but has been overlooked completely by Scaloni and his staff.
Juan Foyth, who has played only 12 times in LALIGA this term, has been left out, as well as Alejandro 'Papu' Gomez, who is serving a two-year ban from football. Furthermore, Thiago Almada will not be involved as he is set to represent Argentina's U23 side at the Olympics. Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has made the preliminary squad that is headlined by captain Lionel Messi, who helped inspire his national team to Copa America glory in 2021.
