As the world commemorates World Obesity Day, South Africa 's Heart and Stroke Foundation highlights the massive problem of obesity in the country. Almost 65% of women and 30% of men are classified as overweight or obese.

Childhood obesity is also on the rise, with about 13.5% of children between the ages of 6 and 14 being overweight or obese. The foundation emphasizes the need for mass public intervention and policies to address the various systems contributing to obesity.
