Former president ThaboMbeki has warned about the ANC’s call for the nationalisation of the SA Reserve Bank, saying it would not result in any material achievement.

Johannesburg - Former president Thabo Mbeki has warned about the ANC’s call for the nationalisation of the SA Reserve Bank, saying it would not result in any material achievement.

Since his defeat by his successor, Jacob Zuma, at the 2007 national conference in Polokwane and his recall by the party in 2008, Mbeki has not been active in ANC politics. “It is in that context that it becomes possible to come back and to be active publicly like this,” he said. “I don’t know what anybody would gain by that nationalisation of the Reserve bank, except to say we have nationalised. Nothing would change in terms of the behaviour of the Reserve Bank, nothing,” Mbeki said.

By the same token, wdnt hurt either, and symbols are important...

But the ANC have always been about the centralisation of power within the State and the Party. The erosion of any independant watchdogs or organisation by cadre deployment. It's even in their manifesto. Why is everyone acting surprised now?

Go tell him uyanya!

but that is a conference resolution or do u want ramaphosa to be axed ?

Let him focus on what he's best on,poems.

Something doesn't really connect in me, possibly because of my political shallowness. As former President, Zuma has long been on a campaign trail, it was never 'big news', but when Mbeki, only 'pledges' to vote for the eyensi, it's all over the news. Really?

🤣 🤣 🤣 This puppet never ceases to amaze me, that's what happens when Rupert et Al put u under pressure to protect their wealth

What is the point of the nationalisation of the SARB? It functions better now than ot would if it were nationalised. Its not like its shareholders now are making any significant profits.

That is the debate we must engage vigorously after election let's focus on elections Thabo

But that's what the MYANC is about nowadays, grandstanding

This guy is an imperialist product. He went to study in London to learn how to keep South Africa in the hands of the imperialists. He can't even tell us of a first world nation whose Reserve bank is in private hands. Even apartheid nationalized it.

It’s a resolution not a call! We didn’t just wake up and decided. We were mandated by branches to go to Nasrec & execute their mandate! This is an insult to ANC delegates, branches & structures! He should have come to Nasrec & argued the point! 😡

I'm not surprised, apartheid degrees produced such thinking, Sussex university neh😁I love it.

Aybo

Where are the RET brigades from within the ANC.. Phukamani Maqabani ecesha lifikile. Ace Makgashule DD Mabuza Jesse Duarte..where are you when NASREC resolutions are shredded infront of you.

Then why is it a problem nationalising it? Why is there so much resistance

I agree with President Mbeki, what do we want to achieve, when we failed SOE with the thugs we have trusted with our pensions and lights

I think Mbeki was not actually touted by the ANC to come and campaign for it but rather his white masters from Stellenbosch. I think Mbalula was just as surprised about his change of heart

Only the looters will gain

Even today he has no sympathy for the poor

Tyhini..!

Dear voters See how your man is screwing us over. Prophecying the wishes of his handlers. So make sure you don't fall for this fuckery on the 8th May. Vote for nationalisation of SARB, mines and the wealth of this country. Vote EFF

See the danger of stooges

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
