Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) will no longer stop at the Italian city of Venice on its sailings for the 2024 season.

The decision comes as a result of the restrictions placed on large vessels coming into the lagoon city.There are currently requirements for large cruise ships to anchor outside of the lagoon and to ferry their passengers into Venice on tender boats.

In 2021, the Italian government banned cruise ships over 25 000 tonnes from entering the lagoon or docking at Venice’s port.TAKING AWAY FROM CRUISE EXPERIENCE Large cruise ships arriving in Venice are now required to anchor outside the lagoon city and use tender boats to transport passengers to the Port of Venice.

Norwegian Cruise Lines has said that it will drop Venice from its sailings this year. This is because the passenger experience is no longer up to standard. “While we have made every effort to maintain these calls to Venice, the tender operation and overall experience this provides our guests has fallen short of the standard we aim to deliver,” the cruise line said, per
