Northern Cape produces markedly improved matric results | Citypress

In 2020, the Northern Cape obtained a 66% pass rate, but on Thursday evening – during the announcement of the matric results – Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga lauded it as the province with the “highest improvement”, with a 71.4% pass rate..

It was followed by Gauteng with an 82.8% pass rate. Gauteng recorded a decline of 1% from 2020, and the Western Cape remained the same with a pass rate of 81.2%.KwaZulu-Natal obtained a 76.8% pass rate.Limpopo performed the worst, recording a 1.5% decline on 2020’s marks to register a 66.7% pass rate.

The top-performing district in the country is Tshwane South in Gauteng, with 89.3%. It was also the top-performing district in 2020. “It is important to observe that among the 75 education districts in our country, the top 10 districts are in three provinces – four each from the Free State and Gauteng, and two from the Western Cape. More impressively, all the top 10 districts performed above 84%,” said Motshekga.
