The basic education minister was adamant that teachers will return to school on May 25, but some provinces say not all Covid-19 measures are in place to prevent its spread, BongeMacupe reports.

The provinces have indicated that they are not ready for teachers to return because some schools have not been cleaned and have not received personal protective equipment.

All three provinces said principals will be at school today to take delivery of the personal protective equipment and to ensure that everything is ready before teachers arrive. The unions accused Motshekga of relying on “vague” reports by provincial departments of education regarding the reopening of schools. According to a survey by the unions, more than 9 000 principals said not all schools had been disinfected, some were awaiting the personal protective equipment and others still did not have water.

Plans to get teachers back to schools on Monday thrown into disarrayBasic education minister Angie Motshekga’s plans to get teachers back to school on Monday have been thrown into disarray after a provincial education department and a teachers' union asked educators not to return. Yheyiii hay sabhidekee🤔 Stop paying them ! The provinces lied to Angie about the state of readiness of schools and all that is a lie. I wish anyone involved to be held accountable if anything wrong happens and be removed from their position of duty. They are gambling with the lives of children and educators here☝️

Sadtu calls for teachers across the country not to return to workProvinces across the country are not ready to reopen schools, and therefore no teacher should return to work this week, the SA Democratic Teachers Union said on Monday. Big surprise. SADTU has never been interested in children's needs or education anyway. Even black parents know better and prefer non-SADTU teachers. PS: No work, no pay. These SADTU parasites are welcome to stay at home, but then their salaries should be taken away. Why should the private sector pay for these useless parasites' nice paid vacation? Then NO work NO pay should apply DBE_SA
