WEBINAR: Has the pandemic brought the public and private health sectors together and helped lay a better foundation for NHI implementation?

In a nutshell, under the National Health Insurance , a centralised fund will procure a package of health services from both the public and private sectors in an effort to provide all South Africans — regardless of their ability to pay for services — with free access to healthcare.

The pandemic highlighted the importance of NHI for all and that we cannot afford to ignore the scheme. He was Superintendent General of the Department of Health and Welfare, Northern Province where he served from 1994 to 1999. In 2009, he served as Special Adviser to Minister Barbara Hogan. He was intimately involved in the establishment of the National Health Laboratory Service, the transfer of the medicolegal mortuaries from police to health and the creation of the Forensic Pathology Services, and in the establishment of the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority.
