On Wednesday Cogta MEC's spokesperson Pheello Oliphant confirmed that Williams received the notice from Odendaal and that the matter would be discussed in the meeting scheduled for Thursday. | MaliDayimani

A high level meeting between Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Zolile Williams and newly elected Nelson Mandela Bay mayor, Retief Odendaal, will be held on Thursday to discuss making changes to the mayoral executive system of the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality.

Odendaal is fighting tooth and nail to stop the department from amending Section 12 of the Municipal Structures Act which will lead to the scrapping of the current mayoral executive system for a ward participatory system. The provincial department of Cogta is planning to replace the collective executive with a ward participatory system that would take powers away from a mayor and allow for a new committee to run things.Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism. No govt bailout for Eskom if they don't write off municipalities' debt, Ramaphosa hears | News24With Eskom's debt sitting at R450 billion, any assistance from the government will come with hefty conditions imposed on the struggling power utility, President Cyril Ramaphosa said at the Local Government Summit on Wednesday. | ZintleMahlati ZintleMahlati Taxpayers pay for bailouts - taxpayers pay for 32% increases. This is NOT public money - this is taxpayer's money. Conditions or not - it has to stop. ZintleMahlati Let one of those conditions to Eskom be a total takeover of electricity supply and dispensing in all the municipalities seeking debt written off to financially sustain the entity. ZintleMahlati Are you serious, ok so maybe if the municipalities (which is the government) paid Eskom what they should, then perhaps Eskom wouldn’t need as big a bailout from government than what they do, you are robbing Peter to pay Paul.
