'So focusing on motherhood has been amazing and just being okay with not doing anything.'

Media personality and singer Nandi Madida has opened up about her reason for taking an impromptu year off from work to focus on motherhood.

“It's been so rewarding. My children needed it because they're still young. And that's a huge achievement. It's OK, even if you haven't been doing anything per se and you're just sitting down, connecting with yourself, and understanding yourself. That's also fine.

“People romanticise the idea of us being together, we've actually tried it and we can't even get a minute into it. But if it does happen it has to be organic, and you'll know it's an achievement.”

RURAL SCHOOLING OP-ED: Our rural education system is broken — we must learn from our ancestors that it takes a village to educate a childWhat is being offered as schooling in rural South Africa is not nearly good enough and we need to stand together as communities to create something better; create community schools that produce top-achieving learners based on a culture of learning and teaching. Educate them for village life or for life in the modern world? Unfortunately, even people born in rural areas want to teach in urban areas upon graduation. There is no giving back spirit in these communities We are failed by the government. The education system in rural areas during apartheid was doing great because the gov was hands on. As we speak, in some schools teachers attend classes once a week and we expect these kids to be like kids from Sandton. It's a shame
