A 200kg blue dangerous chemical sealed container was found washed ashore near Stilbaai. Image: Supplied / NSRI, Garden Route Fire and Rescue Services are dealing with a 200kg blue dangerous chemical sealed container found washed ashore at Jongensfonteinstrand near Stilbaai in the Western Cape.
DRM Garden Route has confirmed that the sealed container containing hazardous dangerous chemicals is not a present risk and will be recovered on Saturday by a Hazmat Fire and Rescue Services team.containers adrift at sea in the area – or already washed ashore – along that stretch of coastline. According to records, a 200kg blue container of this nature is normally carried in a pallet of four containers.While it cannot be confirmed that three containers are missing or remain adrift at sea and/or washed ashore, GRDRM authorities are appealing to boaters and public members not to approach the container, but to immediately call GRDRM ON 044 805 5071 or the National Ambulance Emergency number 10177.
At the time of publishing there have been no reports of any dangerous chemical containers missing off any ship at sea and it therefore remains unclear where the container originated. WC Government Health EMS Metro Control, DRM , MRCC , Telkom Maritime Radio Services, SAMSA , Western Cape Fire and Rescue Services, SA Police Services, NSRI and TNPA have all been alerted.
