JOHANNESBURG - Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra's CEO, Louis Heyneman, has slammed Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa's latest proposal. This is after Mthethwa resuscitated a 2018 proposal for a R30-million National Philharmonic Orchestra programme."If the government wanted to fund [the] development of young musicians this is not the best way."It's duplication and a waste of tax payers money. I don't think the minister has an idea of what's happening in concert halls," Heyneman said.

"They're out of touch. In Cape Town, we've been growing grassroot training programme and academy for more than 15 years and many of our young players from all communities have moved to the professional arena. Creating a national showcase orchestra is a duplication and is very costly."

ANC cadres are soooo out of touch with South Africa. It’s absolutely disgusting!

That one is useless as the Gorvement

I wonder what Bonang and other TV personalities are saying about his silly suggestions. Instead of initiating good royalties & a pension fund for our entertainment industry

He must just step down. Iyamehlula lento..

Looks like Nathi got a budget that he doesnt know how to use yet museums & heritage sites are closing due to bankruptcy. Artists are depressed & dying like flies. How he has managed to keep his job this long remains a mystery.

This guy is a bloody fool...I don't know how they keep this kind of rubbish in the ministry

Why? Why can young black kids be exposed to orchestra music. Can't people in townships play violin a d other instruments. These singers think their music is the only that must receive funding and support.
