KZN Cogta Sipho Hlomuka has condemned the explosion at Msunduzi Municipality, saying no amount of intimidation would deter attempts to clean up the KZN capital.

Pietermaritzburg - KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Sipho Hlomuka has condemned the explosion at Msunduzi Municipality, saying no amount of intimidation would deter attempts to clean up the KZN capital.

"What happened in Pietermaritzburg today has no place in a civilised society," Hlomuka said on Monday evening. He has now called for an urgent investigation into the incident and urged city officials to "take the necessary safety precautions going forward". Sibusiso Sithole the former city manager in eThekwini was appointed administrator along with department officials to help improve the municipality.

Monday's meeting was part of a workshop where Sithole was presenting his confidential turnaround plan for the city. The plan is said to have laid bare the problems that led to the near collapse of the municipality and fingered some officials and called for harsh action against wrongdoers. According to ANC Moses Mabhida Regional Task Team member Mzi Tebolla, the incident shows an agenda to make the municipality ungovernable.
