The South African Film and Television Awards took place in Sun City on Saturday night to honor the countries outstanding thespians.

While many talented actors in Film and the television industry scooped more than one award, Vuyani Pambo from the Economic Freedom Fighter’s camp saw it fitting to seize the moment in campaigning for the party ahead of this year’s general elections on May 8.by Uhuru productions won the best documentary feature and it was Pambo who rose to the podium to receive the SAFTA.

Pambo said he was there to accept the SAFTA award on behalf of all those who advocated for free decolinised education. He mentioned Khaya Cekeshe, Mlungisi Madonsela and Katlego Monareng who all advocated for “free decolonised quality education”. He also dedicated the SAFTA award win to the children of the mine workers who died during the Marikana Massacre. Pambo took a jab at Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa by saying those children would soon obtain free quality decolonised education, under the leadership of the EFF. OPINIONISTA: Hate speech Bill could be used to silence free speechThe National Assembly Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services is currently processing the Prevention and Combating of Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Bill. While the Bill has laudable aims, the sections of the draft Bill dealing with hate speech is not without its problems. The fear is that in its current form the Bill might well be used by those with economic, social or political power to silence their critics and to end difficult discussions about race, gender and sexuality (among other things).
