Maputo — The Constitutional Council, Mozambique 's highest body in matters of constitutional and electoral law, has rejected an attempt by a minor political party, the United Congress of Democrats , to deny Venancio Mondlane a place on the ballot paper for the presidential election scheduled for 9 October.

Last Friday, the CDU submitted an appeal to the Constitutional Council, demanding that Mondlane be barred from using the CAD symbol, which is a pigeon. The CAD election agent, Elvino Dias, asked why the CDU had chosen now as the time to challenge the use of the pigeon symbol. He pointed out that the CAD had taken part in last year's municipal elections, with the same symbol, and the CDU had not protested. There was a problem processing your submission.
