MotoGP returned to Europe and the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal after a trio of flyaway races. | Wheels24

Saturday's qualifying saw Johann Zarco start in pole position ahead of Suzuki's Joan Mir and Aleix Espargaro aboard the Factory Aprilia.

Mir and Quartararo slowly built up a lead of approximately a second over the chasing pack until Quartararo took the lead on lap four. Quartararo preceded to set the fastest lap after fastest lap and built a lead of 2.0 seconds by lap ten and 4.8 seconds by lap 16, running a pace that no other rider could match.

Jack Miller showed incredible pace in the second half of the race, which allowed him to improve from the fourth position he had been running in and close the gap on the Suzuki and fellow Ducati rider ahead. At the end of the 25-lap race, Quartararo took the chequered flag 5.4 seconds ahead of Johann Zarco and Aleix Espargaro.
