Melbourne has begun a six-week lockdown amid fears of a second wave

Victoria on Thursday reported that 165 new infections had been detected in the last 24 hours, an increase on the previous day’s 134 cases. The northern state of Queensland said it would ban non-residents arriving from Victoria. It will open its borders to people from other states and territories on Friday.

“We’re definitely at a different stage of the pandemic,” NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters in Sydney.
