The report, released in Pretoria on Wednesday by commissioner Tembinkosi Bonakele, revealed that Vodacom and MTN were charging far more for data in SA than in the other countries

MTN and Vodacom have been singled out for their high data costs by a competition commission inquiry. Their prices are far cheaper in the other countries in which they operate.A damning competition commission report into the high cost of data has slammed SA's mobile giants for oppressing and exploiting the country's poor.

"SA is still considerably more expensive than the cheapest country," said Bonakele in revealing the report's provisional findings. He said those buying smaller data bundles pay up to twice as much compared with consumers who buy larger bundles. He said careful thought must be given to ensure competition is enhanced with free public WiFi rolled out to ensure that the"poorest of the poor" and those living in rural areas can access the internet.

Datamustfall maybe was a joke🤔....

GayMenSA Really No sh*t Sherlock, do you only realise that now?

Vodacom charges R149 for 1 Gig of data😶

You will hear them mention 4th industrial revolution. Government is useless.

Bloody greedy capitalist Vodacom and MTNza we need answers

Vodacom when are you refunding us

When are they refunding us

We need an unled revolution to this companies. We will wait forever if we rely on government, the ANC and ICASA to radically change this.

These companies having been ripping us for the longest of time with no consequences. They need to be put in their place by not only being fined heavily but by having regulations that will enforce them to drop their prices. It's enough now.

SimonPGrindrod They need to impose laws from the onset not do reviews years after networks rip people off.

We knew this and you should be telling us what's the next move to cut the cost not just state the obvious and leave it there

Now that this has been revealed what is ICASA_org going to do ? This is ludicrous!!!That Consumer Protection office is also snoozing, might as well close down .. How have we been protected as consumers ?🤷🏾‍♀️

But how long have we been on this issue

Jaaa but we know this 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

jabu_sono Did we need a commission to tell us this common knowledge? 🙄🙄

Can they pay us back?

Sentletse Boooy are they milking it 😥. You can't blame them if they see this leaderless country we are in.

Sentletse MTNza Vodacom after 8th of May south Africa will never be the same again better fix it nou other wise EFFSouthAfrica will make you pay

Sentletse We been knew!!!😳

Ohh we are shocked, 🙆🏽‍♂️

The data prices are absurd

Time something s done about this.

Why are you telling us something we know?

Slamming those companies won't make any difference nje🤷‍♂️

What is greed ?

I spend nearly R800 per month on Mtn Data 😡

They must pay back our data.

Tell us something we don't know,I thought they will they must cut data price by 50%

Anger at poor public services 25 years into South Africa democracyInside the conical brick tower looming over Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto, Busi Hlatshwayo thoughtfully studies 10 giant bronze slabs announcing the core principles of South Africa’s Freedom Charter. She pauses at one that declares: “The people shall share in the country’s wealth!” and remarks wryly: “Where is that wealth?“ Hlatshwayo then slowly recites another: “There shall be houses, security and comfort!“ “Where (is the) comfort?” the 79-year-old asks. All because of thieves looting our resources in the name politics and they want to return to power to continue where they left of Disguised
