Mexico Coach: I Have To Do Everything To Stop Messi | Soccer Laduma

Mexico head coach Gerardo Martino comes up against his home nation Argentina on Saturday and says he will do everything to stop Lionel Messi.

Martino is no stranger to the Argentine national set up, having spent two years as their head coach between 2014 and 2016.The 60-year-old is also managed Messi during his one season with LaLiga giants FC Barcelona in the 2013-2014 campaign. "What would you do in my place? I know where I was born, I'll tell you the year, the name of the hospital, the city's area code. But I have to do everything possible for Mexico to win."

When asked about coming up against his former talisman Messi on Saturday, he added, "The best footballer in the last 15 years, at least. Stopping him, it happens more often because he's having a bad afternoon than what we can do." Mexico and Argentina meet at the World Cup for the first time since the 2010 World Cup, where La Albiceleste ran out 3-1 winners thanks to a brace by Carlos Tevez and a solitary strike from Gonzalo Higuain.
