The contestants started using more of the kitchen appliances – almost always with disastrous results – as the show continues to create a wonderful sense of abundance in terms of the food styling. The week started with viewers seeing that last week's top scorers were not necessarily going to be this week's top scorers. The contestants are now becoming first-name familiar to viewers, and some of their traits and personalities are becoming familiar to viewers as well.In Tuesday's episode, the contestants had to pay homage to the late Queen of African cuisine, Dorah Sithole, South Africa's first black food editor.

This was an emotional episode, and Charmaine can now be called this season's"human yoyo" – up the one day and down the next, only to be at the top the day after that.The contestants had to choose one of 12 spices which had to be the hero ingredient. Andriette got habanero – one of the hottest chillies there is. The dish they had to make could be sweet or savoury but had to bring the heat.James, Andriette, and Sims were at the bottom in this episode.
