City Power struggles to restore electricity to Joburg CBD and nearby areas post underground cable fire along M1 North.

is facing a daunting challenge in restoring electricity to the Joburg CBD and surrounding areas after an underground cable fire erupted along the M1 North on Wednesday.

“This morning what we are going to do alongside EMS and JRA is to have a meeting so that we can basically be handed over the site and we can start with an assessment of the extent of the damage,” Mangena stated, outlining the initial steps toward recovery. Gauteng emergency services spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi indicated that investigations into the cause of the fire were still ongoing. “It is mostly underground cables which supply electricity to Braamfontein and surrounding areas.
