A man died in a shack fire in an informal settlement in Cape Town on Saturday evening, the city's fire and rescue service said.

A team of fire fighters was dispatched to the Marikana informal settlement in Philippi just after 10pm, said spokesperson Jermaine Carelse.The fire was extinguished just before midnight.
