A 25-year-old man accused of cutting off his mother's head appeared in court in Pretoria on Thursday.However, a bed has not yet become available at Weskoppies psychiatric hospital. has yet to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital for observation because of Covid-19.
The State said there was a backlog as patients were not being admitted to Weskoppies because wards were being used for Covid-19 patients. While these wards would contribute to longer waiting times for a bed to become available, space at the state psychiatric hospital had always been a challenge. Chitsere is accused of murdering his mother on 8 September 2020, in an informal settlement in Hercules, Pretoria.
