Sundowns made history by becoming the first South African women’s team to win the continental championship after beating Ghana’s top side Hasaacas Ladies during the finals in Cairo last year.

Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathie Mthethwa hosted the Brazilians for a dinner in Sandton last night to honour the team for their greatest achievement in the continent and handed them a cheque worth R1 million for winning the CAF competition.The event was also graced by the presence of SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordan and MEC for Sports and Recreation in Gauteng, Bali Hlophe amongst other dignitaries.

Sundowns’ chairman, Tlhopie Motsepe confirmed last night that the Brazilians’ women’s side and technical team will share the money handed by the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathie Mthethwa to the club for their achievement in the CAF Women's Champions League last year.“That is what we always try to make sure that our players and technical team are compensated for their efforts, for what they have done, the sacrifices.

As a football club, we try our best to make sure they have an environment where they can achieve and grow and keep playing football,” he added. The Sundowns Ladies Team was recently awarded a cheque of R2 million for winning the Hollywoodbets Super League.
