More than 700 shacks at an informal settlement in Eerste Fabrieke, Mamelodi, have been swept away by floods. Picture: Bongani Shilubane/ANAA car in the water at Centurion Hotel. The residents, who over the years built thousands of shacks on a river bank along Tsamaya Road, felt history was repeating itself; this was the third time an incident of this nature hit the area.
This is starting to seem intentional, almost as if they know they have protest credits as soon as they put the first shack down in uncharted territory
The myanc MUST provide safe housing - it costs less to build an entire street of RDP houses than it is to rename one road. The problem is an RDP is less than 5% profit and renaming a street is 70%+ profit! As long as the ANC gets their money, the poor will remain poor!
Who allowed them to build on a river bed. What was town planning doing when building commenced? That's what laws & rules are for! FFS let's just get the basics right as a starting point. These poor people have lost everything because local Gov & Municipality didn't do their job!
Why do they always build on a river bed? Same thing along the Jukskei. Surely they know if it rains for a few days in a row, they going to potentially wash away. It happens every single time.
