Castillejo's treatment was a"last resort" as his blood cancer would likely have killed him without intervention, according to Gupta. Exciting news! There's actually a company called CytoDyn that has developed a CCR5 inhibitor called leronlimab for HIV and other indications. They're about to file their final application to take it to market for use in treating HIV. May have applications in cure eventually.
