The moment President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the closure of beaches during the busy festive period to contain Covid-19 spread, beach resorts and guest houses in coastal towns of the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape began losing millions as holidaymakers started cancelling their bookings.
Tourism associations in the Eastern Cape have told News24 how some leading hotel groups had resolved to close their establishments until the ban on beaches is lifted.
