Former president Jacob Zuma’s bid to evade the long arm of the law ended on Wednesday night as the police arrested him in Nkandla.
He spent his first night behind bars for contempt of court at Estcourt prison in KwaZulu-Natal. The province’s police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi led the arrest operation. Zuma’s 15-month jail sentence for contempt of court follows his refusal to testify at the state capture inquiry despite a Constitutional Court order.
The arrest follows a tumultuous week in which Zuma flouted a court order to hand himself over to police, his supporters fired live rounds into the air and stoked fears of civil unrest, and Zuma himself lashed the judiciary.“Without doubt this is a difficult period in the movement and we call upon our members to remain calm and respect the decision taken by former president Jacob Zuma to abide by the rulings of the court.
No reaction until I see his pictures in orange uniform. In South Africa anything is possible. Even Watson none of us can provide evidence dat he indeed died.
