Internal combustion vehicles will be produced for export for a long time

Landiwe Mahlangu’s excellent, informative article on electric vehicles and the internal combustion engine prompts some questions .

How many ICE vehicles, including trucks and buses, are on SA roads? If there is full conversion to EVs, how much more electricity will the country need? I suggest these two questions outline the local basic issues. It is all very well to write about the shift to EVs in Europe and North America, but what about the rest of the world? Has anyone attempted to do a broad analysis or at least thumb-suck on the progress of and implications of the shift in the rest of Africa, Central and South America and Asia, Japan, China, Indonesia?

I suspect ICE power will be with us for many more years than EV proponents wish to acknowledge. If the local automotive industry plays its cards well SA will be producing ICE vehicles for export for a long time yet.

LETTER: Does the ANC care how Eskom’s troubles hurt the poor?Does the ANC care how Eskom’s troubles hurt the poor? Who is the Dedicated Minister &where should that he/she come from? “Bring in the right international talent under an Eskom minister who is dedicated to energy generation” Why not Gwede? Is it because he is not totally amused by the IPP’s? Like it or not, Gwede will take over Have there been any publications by mainstream newspapers on Coal Switching.. this story just died No, because they feel it is not their fault, and they will use it to score cheap political points. And all have taxpayer funded generators. How can someone who don't have loadshedding, identify with us who have to live with it daily...?

LETTER: Does the ANC care how Eskom’s troubles hurt the poor?Does the ANC care how Eskom’s troubles hurt the poor? I doubt it very much. But what they do care about is having generators at all their residences at taxpayers expense, because they are on duty to serve the people 24/7. The people must be grateful for that. Escalated food prices makes the grant's that they give to the people worthless. In the end they can completely remove them as this is what they want to do. No, because it does not affect the bigwigs in the least, with their taxpayer sponsored generators, and blue light brigade who don't get stuck in traffic when the lights don't work.... And it affects everyone badly.....
