Ke Yona underdogs ready to bite

Indeed, the lower tier clubs will need all the bravado they can get in the Ke Yona Cup. The competition is known for its major upsets as it pits top flight clubs against hungry and determined lower league teams.Mathaithai take on fellow ABC Motsepe League side NC Professionals in Kimberley in the Northern Cape while Sinenkani will battle Free State Stars at the Walter Sisulu University Stadium in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.

“We see ourselves going far in this competition. I think we can do well and surprise a lot of people,” he said. The Bizana-based Sinenkani are mentored by co-coaches Tshepo Motsoeneng and Vumani Mvundla. Motsoeneng, a former PSL player, led Bizana Pondo Chiefs in the tournament last year. “It’s football and anything can happen on match day. We just have to go out there and give a good account of ourselves. In this tournament everyone is equal and it doesn’t matter which division you are from. We will give it our all against Stars, especially because we will be at home,” Motsoeneng said. The remaining nine spots in the last 16 will be determined this weekend.
