Just In: No Kaizer Chiefs players in latest Bafana Bafana squad

No Kaizer Chiefs players were named in Hugo Broos’ 23-man Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming 2026 World CupThis is the fourth time that Broos has selected that lacked any of the Khosi players. Earlier this year, none of the Chiefs stars made it to Broos’ Bafana Bafana’s Africa Cup of Nations team. TheLast year, the Bafana coach faced criticism from some Kaizer Chiefs fans when he said their players were not good enough to play in the national team.

“I think I’m too straight, I tell the things how they are. I don’t like to say it’s grey when it’s white or black, for me it’s black or white. What I feel is the truth but they don’t accept it,” Broos told SABC then.“For example when I spoke about the players of Chiefs, everyone is angry because I said that but it is like that, Chiefs don’t play good at the moment. So what did I say wrong?” Broos added.

Bafana Bafana’s preliminary squad featured two Kaizer Chiefs players. Both Bruce Bvuma and Given Msimango both failed to make the final cut meaning the national team will once lack Amakhosi stars. Burnley striker Lyle Foster and Al Ahly star Percy Tau are expected to lead the Bafana attack. Orlando Pirates teenager Relebohile Mofokeng could make his debut for the national team after a sensational season.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana was included in the Bafana squad after impressing in Romania. Bafana plays Nigeria and Zimbabwe in June looking to take control of their group.
