Johannesburg's Nelson Mandela Bridge is closed for maintenance on Mandela's special day. | IamAlexSweet

Hoberman Collection/Universal Images Group via GetThe Joburg Metro Police Department announced the bridge's closure for maintenance and cleaning on Tuesday and Wednesday.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the bridge was closed to vehicles but would be accessible to pedestrians. The Mandela Bridge, which was built in 1993 in recognition of the late statesman, links Braamfontein to the inner city.
