A 68-year-old Johannesburg man has been arrested for allegedly shooting a neighbour's dog several times.

“On Saturday, inspectors of the Randburg Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals , accompanied by Muldersdrift police, charged to the scene where witnesses had seen a 68-year-old man shoot a female pit bull three times,” the SPCA said in a statement.According to the organisation, the man had heard the dogs barking and fighting in a common area outside his property. He fired shots at the pit bull.

“As officers we are vested with a certain discretion, and are empowered to investigate offences in respect of animals. In respect of this incident, it was clear that there existed far less severe methods the suspect could have employed to achieve the same result,” said SPCA inspector Shiven Bodasing.

According to the SPCA, animal cruelty is a schedule one offence and any person convicted is liable to a fine of R40,000 or direct imprisonment without the option of a fine.

Ooh Jesus

What about human traffickers You arrest a dog killer but you fail to arrest drug lords 🙆🙆🙆

Unathi_Kwaza shows in the comments what loving people SA’s are🤦🏼‍♂️

Fark this fog shooter.

Dear SPCA, are people allowed to let their dogs run unmonitored in the streets or is there a nation law against this behavior?

Our sister are getting killed n raped everyday but the people who do such things are never arrested that fast or animal life is more important than a human one ?

Shooting that dog was like thing to do, he should use an exe to deal with it. What a waist of bullets

That is why dog's needs body guards

My neighbor strangled another guy's dog, the owner was a white racist and he hated it when the guy jogs pass his house and used to let the dog out to chase him, he would run scared one day he said he aimed for it and grabbed its jaw twisted it. People use poor animals badly.

My neighbour got fined too for fatally shooting a monkey that was bothering him by eating his bananas.

The shooting of a dog is now news?

People must keep their pet to themselves and not let them annoy some of us who want nothing to do with animals. I don't like cats, but my neighbors cats are forever in my yard. Everytime I work in my garden I have to touch cat poo, I am so sick of it.

Was the dog bothering him that much that he even shoot it? Why ddnt he talk to the neighbor about what was bothering him

When are they arresting the one who shot and killed Meyiwa?

I personally think that this Transparency Act of stating the worth of illicit products only serves to heighten the awareness of criminals to know the real value of crime. That is why they go all out ready to kill to commit crime because they know the value of their action. crime
