An urgent court bid for permission for hairdressers to return to work was dismissed in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.

Hairdressing will remain closed under Level 3 of the nationwide lockdown, which is set to kick in on 1 June.A Johannesburg-based hairdresser has resorted to conducting business illegally after losing his income due to the nationwide lockdown that began on 26 March.

The man, who cannot be named, told News24 in isiZulu that he would rather risk getting arrested because he desperately needed the money. The usually law-abiding citizen has been “forced” to break the law to make a living and meet all of his financial commitments. The hairdresser told News24 that when the lockdown first began, he didn’t do anything for about three weeks. When the Level 4 lockdown started, he began receiving business.

“Things are a little better now but they are still quite bad, because I’m not making nearly enough now to cover my living expenses and people are still fearful of us coming to their homes,” he added.

I couldn't G.A.F what you say, it is our human right to make a living & support our families. Our Constitution remains regardless of National Disaster! Gov thinks R350 will put food on the table for 30 days. fu TRY US! WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF GOVERNMENTS BULLSHIT CONTROL.

Was he arrested unlike others who got arrested in Hilbrow?

Good stop listening to this government... Firstly they destroy lives and secondly they keep lying to the public

Our hairdresser come to our house. We cannot let these people fall through the cracks. They have families & need to pay rent, bonds & buy food. No governent help for them. They were totally screwed over by ANC Every job in SA is essential! No such thing as non essential jobs!

All must do the same Fck government and their full salaries

Beautiful, look even have masks on, unlike those in the townships, on open pavements, no masks, shaving heads, beading hair that takes 6 hours per person. Fuc this lockdown rather get infected, build up immunity and fuc...g carry on with my beautiful life.

Good for him/her safer than a school
