Jeff Radebe opens electricity generation floodgates

15 May 2019 - 05:10Energy minister Jeff Radebe has opened the way for businesses to generate their own electricity and feed this into the national grid.

The move is a crucial development that will assist in alleviating electricity supply constraints and open the generation market to enable more private entities to provide power alongside Eskom.

Co-generation has always been ther. Ther is an underlying issue of grid stability once u start bringing all these small scale producers into the grid. This must be looked at carefully and there must be severe penalties 4 those who can't maintain the agreed generation quantities

Its great news for Municipalities, Eskom and Government...At a ratio of 5:1 It is incentivises, Business to produce approx. 5 units to feed back to the grid to only receive 1 unit credit in return. There is no mention of residential systems to make it more viable...
