Hold leaders and executives to account: institutionalise performance management systems and enter into performance agreements as stated by Ramaphosa in his address.

This emanates from the Medium-Term Strategic Framework and is geared towards fostering a new culture of transparency and accountability. Link remuneration to performance, value add, deliverables and accountability – move away from obscene salaries. Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande’s initiative to review executive salaries in the sector must be lauded, and should be applied to all other sectors, both public and private.
