OPINION: The state’s inability to foresee or forestall this week’s frightening and destructive series of events defies explanation

The political inferno rocking our beloved country proves that the entire intelligence establishment was fast asleep: somehow, an event of this magnitude evaded its high-tech radar screens. A failure of this depth must have repercussions for those who are entrusted with our safety, security and the analysing of real-time intelligence.

The mandate of the State Security Agency is to provide the government with intelligence on domestic and foreign threats; potential threats to national stability, the constitutional order, and the safety and wellbeing of our people. The SSA failed miserably in our hour of need. Parliament needs to probe the most glaring intelligence blunder in our entire history.

We are now in a grim situation that afflicts the whole nation. We are reeling from a series of catastrophic failures of institutional trustworthiness. This ruthless insurrection succeeded because important warnings got lost amid noise or because intelligence officials lacked the skills to “connect the dots” of the available information.

The truth is that when it comes to Intelligence, even poor countries like Zimbabwe and Malawi beat us. We simply do Not have Intelligence

I don't think it's them. My hunch says they cautioned the principles the principles decided to do nothing. In my head that sounds more plausible.

Yes SSA should have seen all that coming. But for me, the betrayal was when it was clear the military dragged their boots, got posted to malls that were already cleared. Police ran out of rounds and teargas. Meanwhile Warehouses burning. We are severely exposed.

Everybody saw it coming except Cyril and Bheki....

I still can't believe that real account manager exist I am so happy trading with ambrey_marcus i never took him serious because I taught he was a scam like others ,until my first withdrawal of R60,000 within just one week of trading! I am so grateful to him and i can't keep this

JustineLimLaw Are they guarding the power supply yet? If I was a terrorist....

The state foresaw it alright. Trust me - nothing this organized, sudden and brutal could be 'spontaneous'. Julius, Ace, Zuma... ANC faction-fighting. Plain ol' tribalism.

Inside job?

Disagree. The explanations for why we are here are frightening. The only thing I struggle with is that they didn't see this coming. I (non political analyst, very Small business guy) did.

Words alone won’t express how thankful I’m recommending you all to you ambrey_marcus .....,investing with you has been a good opportunity for me and my family I just received my profit of R30,500 within five days of investment ambrey_marcus

OUTASA “Defies expansion”? You haven’t been paying attention. This is Africa. TIA

Words alone won’t express how thankful I’m recommending you all to you LouiseConway86.....,investing with you has been a good opportunity for me and my family I just received my profit of R88,500 within seven days of investment LouiseConway86

OUTASA Here’s the explanation.

OUTASA Lol we don't have intelligence in SA

ChangeAgentSA I started with R3000 and in 5days I was credited with R25,500 excluding my R3000 that's over 8x my startup capital. Imagine how much you will make with a higher startup capital. Thank you PackSheriff

JustineLimLaw Planned failure more like

People must be fired here!

Do we have any 🤣🤣🤣

'coordinated insurrection'? Just call it what it is - domestic terrorism. And that's exactly why the intelligence failure is so pathetic. They have failed SAns miserably. Prevention of terrorism is better than trying to rebuild post-destruction.

vivp7 No it doesnt. Our government is not efficient nor capable. To expect them to be would mean you ignore the past two decades.

I owe you an apology to ever doubt your sincerity and professionalism. It’s was just like a dream to me when I received my first payment. After my second payment it became a reality now after several payments it has become a way of life. tyron_robert7

thabileoka How about deliberate dereliction? Factional fighting fallout.

Nomhle_Global Perhaps the State knew this would be the reaction to its decision .. JacobZumaArrest .. hoping the 'storm' will be short-lived .. & with a low death rate .. perhaps a 'necessary sacrifice' for whatever they want to achieve ..

CoruscaKhaya We have been saying there is no intellence in SA they know it!

This author suggest the financial cost is R20 billion. 'South Africa is tragically witnessing a planned and co-ordinated insurrection by the faceless enemies of democracy.'

Not really a simple explanation exists 'cyril is a failure'.

Family meeting PresidencyZA CyrilRamaphosa was postponed by 30 minutes to allow for more horse trading and concessions from him He came across looking crestfallen and defeated The faction twisted his arm, stopped announcement of State of Emergency and possible pardon for Zuma

OP-ED: Service delivery gap: The pros and cons of semi-privatising South Africa’s failing municipalitiesA range of non-governmental roleplayers have stepped into the widening municipal service delivery gap, providing significant benefits for communities. But the risks of such privatisation must be carefully weighed. Clearly a fundamental reform of the civil service is required to mitigate against the crisis in the provision of public goods and service. It is in the country’s interest to find a more formalised way for civil society and the government to collaborate.
