As South Africa is pulling out all stops to arrest the spread of COVID-19, the National House of Traditional Leaders is also playing its part.

JOHANNESBURG - Initiation season will be suspended, according to the National House of Traditional Leaders.“These are desperate times and they call for desperate measures, they call for hard for decision,” said Inkosi Sipho Mahlangu of the National House of Traditional Leaders.However, the decision is not enjoying consensus yet - especially in the Eastern Cape.

“All provinces have heeded the call, fortunately the king of AmaXhosa has suspended initiation the executive provincial committee is of the view that initiation must be suspended. Provincial house is consulting few stakeholders and decision will be made after 30 days,” said Mahlangu.Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8am to 4pm, Monday to FridaySend HI to 0600 123 456 on WhatsApp.

The NICD has another Clinician Hotline to improve #COVID19 communication and support for healthcare providers. The Clinician Hotline is 0800 11 1131, operating 24 hrs. The Public Hotline is 0800 029 999 also operating 24hrs.
