The broadcasting and telecoms regulator launched a probe after only three of five licensees launched services

Broadcasting and telecoms regulator the Independent Communications Authority of SA says it will hold hearings next week as part of its investigation into competition in the pay-TV sector.

“Due to the authority’s commitment and mandate to ensure that markets are effectively competitive, Icasa commenced the inquiry” after two of the licensees that did offer services to the public faced sustainability challenges while two others had not yet launched services. Icasa says MultiChoice’s position has been entrenched, in part, through exclusive content contracts that can run for up to five years and access to major Hollywood studios.

They issued 5 licenses 2007! Only 1 remains because Naspers killed off the other 4! So what competition do they want. You need highly competent people to run a regulatory body whose core focus remains the citizens of that country! Toothless bulldogs do not qualify!

Very useless organisation this
