“We are celebrating 25 years of democracy, but rural women are still treated like children. It is not in line with our constitution,” Ngubane, founder of the Rural Women’s Movement land rights group, said in a phone interview. “The trust has turned communities into tenants by leasing ancestral land to them,” said Ngubane, adding that a compulsory rent, rising 10% every year, has to be paid by community members, who otherwise face eviction.

“We are like one big family,” Ngubane said. “We have now begun to spread our wings into different parts of the country.”

High court decision affirms human rights of transgender people in Zimbabwe | News | Africa | M&GRicky Nathanson was arrested and charged with criminal nuisance after she used a toilet for women. In a progressive judgment with far-reaching implications, the Zimbabwean high court found that transgender people have the same rights as all citizens. I guess a peeping Tom can argue to be within his Human Rights to cross dress and visit the ladies just to sneak a peek. To solve this toilet debacle, it's about time to legislate for LGBT toilets in public spaces just like for disabled people.
