In a tweet on Tuesday night, United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa gave credit to President Cyril Ramaphosa for showing leadership amid the weather crisis in the Eastern Cape.
He said he had alerted Ramaphosa on Monday evening to the Port St Johns floods, and the president, who was on his way to Egypt, responded that he would send in the defence force.According to people in the area, the SA National Defence Force did indeed show a presence by yesterday morning. The SANDF confirmed in a statement that they had been deployed to the Eastern Cape to help with rescue and evacuation in Port St Johns. Hundreds of residents were displaced in the Eastern Cape, which is Holomisa’s political stronghold.
Thanking President Cyril Ramaphosa. At 17.21 yesterday I alerted him of the Port St Johns floods and he responded as follows, “ Will act .Am on the way to Cairo but will get SANDF team to go”. Leadership!Eish. This thread shows we have no political associations when we are being threatened as a nation. We are South Africans.Thank you General, you are one of the leaders want in this country, leaders who can criticize as well send appreciation where it deserves.
