South Africans might experience an unexpected return of loadshedding today after electrical faults forced Eskom to send out a power alert.
Five generating units tripped due to two electrical faults at Kriel Power Station this morning, resulting in a loss of 2 000 MW from the system. The power utility initially stated “heavy mist conditions” as the possibly cause for the faults, but is investigating further. They currently have 1 018MV on planned maintenance, while another 17 022 MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
