According to the power utility, breakdowns currently account for 17 702 MW of generating capacity, with 3 702 MW of generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance.
A generation unit at Matla and Medupi power stations has been restored to service in the last 24 hours. During the same time period, a generating unit at each of the Grootvlei and Lethabo power stations was shut down for maintenance. Delays in resuming service of units at the Arnot, Duvha, Kriel and Lethabo power stations contributed to the current capacity constraints.
Eskom stated that its team is working around the clock to restore generating units to service as soon as possible.
