Dutch brewing giant expects Covid-19 to continue to weigh on key markets, and says rising costs of barley and aluminium for cans may affect pricing

“Unlike last year, we now see significant impact on the business in Southeast Asia,” Van den Brink said in an interview on Monday, referring to the fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic. Rising commodity costs, including for barley, sugar and aluminium for cans, would start affecting Heineken in the second half of 2021 and would have a “material effect” in 2022, when hedging contracts were no longer mitigating the increases.AB InBev, the world’s largest brewer, last week reported a surge in beer sales in the second quarter, but higher can and transport costs curbed profits.
