South Africans can thank Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla that the country is not being subjected to stricter lockdown measures amid record-high Covid-19 infections

The number of new infections has surpassed previous records every day since Tuesday – yet hospital admissions are significantly lower than with previous waves.

The rest of the Cabinet was very concerned because other countries where Omicron is spreading rapidly are imposing stricter measures. We are also asking all South Africans to celebrate responsibly, especially with regard to alcohol use. The lower death rate is also evident from data on “excess deaths” from the Medical Research Council . With the previous three Covid-19 waves, “excess deaths” – true deaths due to natural causes compared to the expectation based on historical data – skyrocketed. With the second wave during the week of January 3, 8 732 people aged under 60 died – almost double the “normal” 4 455.

Let's imagine a new more aggressive variant somewhere out there been identified early before it reaches SA. They would obvious react when ppl are starting to die by imposing a hard lock down. To them it will not make sense to ban travel immediately

Exactly

I know we all probably might have heard about Bitcoin but don't know how it works, I tried it in a week ago by a man who recommended me to Derrick_Jones39 on Twitter he guides me through and i made a return of $10500 after a week of trading, connect with him

Any project has a start n end date. According to the project managers and stake holders the project must be in a complete state so they are now introducing closing phase noma kanjani. External stakeholders (citizens) are done with this failed project.

Tjooo, why him alone? Is he not working with a team? Seriously U are driving a headless train. Guess what is ya plan Kanye Kanye.

Then, this raises a question as to whether: Could it be, that other lockdowns we went through in the past could have well been informed by emotions, rather than science?

If the covid is over I would have thank him but no he has not done anything serious.

Ke modimo ena. Keng did he chase corona away

Thank him for what exactly? Yall always writing bullshit.

Mxm... South Africans must thank themselves for being such a stubborn bunch. Ramaphosa heard through the grapevine that a hard lockdown would have resulted in a massive revolution. People are tired of this nonsense

Thank him for ini? Hee banna these officials think we're their kids and they can control us any how they want, bathong Phahla can go to hell because even if they tried locking us up we weren't going to comply to their shitty senseless lockdowns bayasibhedela laba habee imihlola!

No 😂😂😂😂😂🤣

Bullshit

Thank him for doing his job

What the hell did he do...?

Thank him for promoting an experimental gene therapy?

Haybo wenza umsebenzi wakhe akere

We don't owe any politician any favour wena captured media ya masepa

You want us to think basic human rights are a luxury?

He knows very well that 2024 is just around the corner

Next time will be asked to thank a cat for landing from a 10 storey building.. 🙄

We thank DD

Record high? Ok

Running out of news

Thank him for what? Stop feeding us rubbish.

Thank him?!

I say Edward. Edward Bernays.

Nna I thank SAns for 'we'll not comply'

Nature is taking its course, soyinqoba Chinese flu. We thank God.

What happened to 'the science'?. Health Minister is YOUR friend..not ours. We don't care about your 'overwhelming scientific non-evidence'

We learned a lot from Covid-19. We can now leave with it. The state must just increase vaccination campaigns. No need for a lockdown. All shall be well.

Thank you Minister Phaahla for looking out for us. 👊🏾

I thought lockdowns were based on science and not individual viewpoints.

No one was going to tolerate that nonsense anyway, people are tired of nonsense

He doesn't deserve thanks this one he's same WhatsApp group with Cyril ' Mkhize was way better than him

We have to learn to co-exist with COVID particularly now that the symptoms are not as bad and death rates are very low. Lock down of the economy will hurt us more than Omicron. More variants are coming, are we going to lock-down everytime there is a new variant?

Duh?

Bull...they should end it

Kahle wena 🤔

Why thank a public official for doing his job?

Thank him for what

No Africans can't thank useless ministers & the current useless president. As an African i was suggesting that all Non-Africans staying in South Africa & Ramaphosisa & his Cabinet that be moved to Europe where they can be given some land there & they can rainbow nation there....

Superhero........he was doing his job

Lets make him the president if thats the case.

We don’t need to thank anybody. They should just end the lockdown nje cos it’s ridiculous and serves no point

The other one subjected us to stricter lockdoem measures while he was striking money and opening salons. Phaahla wouldn't dare as he knew there could there would be unrest's.

I thank myself

Thank him for what exactly? Your nonsensical lockdowns are killing whatever is left of this economy. These guys must just make rational decisions and stop expecting us to praise them for thinking right.

Not true. The ANC dismal performance in the local elections has put them in such a bad standing with citizens that they dare not adjust the lockdown fearing further damage to their already shitty reputation. A whole lot of brown nosing will happen. Don't be fooled by the MYANC

We told y'all we won't comply, so we thank ourselves.

Thank him for doing what exactly 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Thank him for what? I’m sorry but we’re not here because of him. The lockdown was pointless anyway!

From science to minister

Lol we are thanking DD not this Cyril Stoogie

Do they have to thank him or the government is scared of the last JulyUnrest it's not easy out there people are hungry, job loss due to this coroviruspandemic just because he eats and got a job doesn't mean everyone eats too.

Our immune system deserves an award for surviving this nonsense, we ain’t thanking nobody

Can South Africans save the country in 2024.We need a new coalition government that will protect our borders and turn our country into a construction site and create jobs.

Is he not doing his job?

U ' City press' hv been canvassing for strict lockdown

PUBLIC HEALTH: The travails of getting tested for Covid-19 in Diepkloof, Soweto‘Recently, my daughter had contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19. She isolated and, at some point, had a sore throat. She wanted to be sure, so she went for a Covid PCR test. She arrived at the testing site at 8am and waited in her car for an hour and a half listening to a podcast. The test was quick. She went home and, eight hours later, she got an SMS with the results. Thankfully, she was negative,’ writes Harriet Perlman. Tshabalira Lebakeng’s experience, however, was very different. From the time of feeling unwell to finally getting his Covid-19 test results took seven days. In the WC you won't even get a test. Just assume it's Covid. Only 50+ year olds get tests. If you pay R500 you can get a test. I never knew I will be able to pay my bills and get to my stand again life is Good when you see good people... I want you guys to help me Appreciate Robert_BAR1
